How it works

Exchange rates are the nightmare of trip accounting. We handled it in the background: you pick a reference currency, everything else is automatic.

    01Step 1

    Pick the count's reference currency

When you create the count, set the currency the balances will display in (often your home currency — EUR for French users). This is the pivot for all calculations.

    02Step 2

Everyone logs in the payment currency

A restaurant in Bangkok? Enter it in THB. An Uber in New York? In USD. A beer in Tokyo? In JPY. The app keeps both the original currency and the exact amount.

    03Step 3

Conversion happens at the day's rate

CountClub applies the rate from the expense's date (not the settlement date) to convert into the reference currency. Balances stack cleanly in a single currency.

    04Step 4

    Settle in the reference currency

On the way home, balances are all in the same currency. You see exactly how much to transfer to whom. Each expense keeps its original amount visible for verification.

Honestly

What you should also know.

No overblown promises. Here are the real limits of the feature, to avoid surprises.

The rate used is the one from the expense's date, not from your bank's rate the day of the transfer. A few percent discrepancy can remain — in practice minimal on a trip.

Rates come from a public API, refreshed daily. If it's down, a fallback rate is used (rare, and only for common currencies).
